Caricatures by Stan Levine

A Caricature as defined by
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caricature is "A caricature is either a portrait that exaggerates or distorts the essence of a person or thing to create an easily identifiable visual likeness, or in literature, a description of a person using exaggeration of some characteristics and oversimplification of others.

Often times a Caricature sketch artist will be hired at a birthday party, wedding or other celebratory event to draw the guests. It is amusing to see what you would look like as a cartoon. In the past, caricatures have been used to insult or belittle people in some way in the media, but I think people are taking the caricature too seriously. A caricature is meant to generate laughter at no expense to ones feelings. My caricatures are designed to capture a true likeness of a person in comical form. In a sense, the expressive exaggerated lines capture an indescribable essence of a person's personality or spirit. This is not to say that a caricature steels away the participant's sole. The sole is forever transforming in time, so it can not be indefinitely captured in a drawing, but it does hold the footprint left behind in the artist's representation of the participants sense of being or sole if you will. The caricature hold the impression that the sole makes on the artist for that moment of time that the artist has to draw the participant, but after that moment the participant leaves the focus of the artist, and the sole moves on within the vehicle of the participant to leave its impression on everyone around them by their words and actions.
